There is a new JMAP (joint musculoskeletal and pain clinic) service starting across Northumberland on the 1st July.  As part of this, the CCG have decided that the service will be provided in several areas including locally in Berwick, Alnwick and Rothbury but that the physiotherapy service in Wooler will be withdrawn.  Although we were aware of the introduction of the new service, we were unaware that the physio service was being removed from Wooler until we were informed by a member of our patient group!  No information had been shared with the practice from the CCG or the new JMAP service providers.

The Glendale and Cheviot Medical Group PPGs have set up opposition to the withdrawal of the service and  met with our practice managers and a CCG representative on Wednesday and also in a public meeting with Healthwatch.  The groups are urging patients to let their views be known via a Healthwatch questionnaire, by signing petitions that are in various outlets in Wooler or by contacting the CCG.   We are also liaising with representatives from the CCG and Northumbria and we completely support the PPGs in their efforts to keep the service in Wooler.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
