Hospital Transport

North East Ambulance Service Patient Transport Services

NEAS provide non-urgent transport to hospital appointments for patients who have no other means of getting to their appointment.  They transport over 4,000 patients each day, to and from treatment centres across the North of England and parts of Scotland.

The transport crews are trained as ambulance care assistants and have specialist knowledge of comprehensive first aid and patient moving and handling techniques.

As well as these crews, they also have Ambulance Car Service Drivers(ACS),  volunteers who use their own vehicles to help with the transportation of patients to and from hospitals and clinics.   These volunteers are available to transport patients who do not need help getting in and out of a car thereby freeing up the larger transport vehicles and their crews to assist the less abled.

If you require transport to your hospital appointment, please call the contact centre on 0191 2648870.   You will be asked a series of questions to find out if you are eligible for transport, ie have no other means of getting to the appointment.  Please note, they cannot provide transport to and from GP or dental surgeries or transport companions unless the patient has a clinical need for a personal escort.
