A new JMAPS (joint musculoskeletal and pain clinic) service started across Northumberland on the 1st July.  As part of this, the CCG decided that the physio service in Wooler would be withdrawn but, due to pressure from the practices and patient groups, they have agreed that the service will continue for one day a week from August.

We have been further informed today (9th July) that any patients wishing to be referred to orthopaedic services for treatment have to have contact with the JMAPS service first and we are therefore unable to refer directly to orthopaedics.

This is something, again, which we were not informed about by the CCG and are awaiting further communication from them.

We will continue to fight to maintain physio services in Wooler as will our patient group.

Some of the practices in the north host late night GP surgeries from 6.30pm until 8pm and on Saturday mornings from 8am - 12 noon.  These are aimed at people who find it difficult to attend their GP surgery during normal surgery hours because of work commitments or transport difficulties.

The clinics are open to patients of Glendale Surgery, Belford Surgery, Well Close Square Medical Group, Union Brae Practice and Cheviot Medical Group.  Some of the practices also have practice nurses or healthcare assistants holding clinics at the same time.  The surgeries will be held as follows:

Monday          Well Close Square Medical Group, Berwick upon Tweed

Tuesday         Belford Surgery, Belford

Wednesday    Well Close Square Medical Group, Berwick upon Tweed

Thursday       Glendale Surgery, Wooler

Friday            Alnwick Medical Group, Alnwick

Saturday        Well Close Square Medical Group, Berwick upon Tweed

To book an appointment at one of these clinics, please contact your own surgery who will have access to the appointment system.

There are also clinics held on a Sunday morning with 3 slots being available at 10.10am, 10.30am and 10.50am at Alnwick and Berwick which is run by the GP out of hours service.  To book one of these appointments, if available, please contact the surgery who will book the appointment for you.
